Constructionarium Australia in partnership with Bielby is running a Story Bridge Build, at the Construction Training Centre in Salisbury from 15 April to 24 April.

Supported by Queensland Major Contractors Association, HDR, Coates Hire, WH&S More Skills, The Construction Training Centre, Envision., Struber, Pulp Vision, Lean Construction Advisory, Madsen Giersing, Keller and Universal Cranes and it will take place at The Construction Training Centre.

Story Bridge – 15 April – 24 April 2020

The Story Bridge is a heritage-listed steel cantilever bridge spanning the Brisbane River that carries vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the northern and the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. At 74m high, and 777m long, the Story Bridge is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia.

The bridge is part of Bradfield Highway and connects Fortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point. The Story Bridge opened in 1940 and is named after prominent public servant, John Douglas Story.

This build will be in partnership with Bielby.

Eleanor Schonell Bridge – 22 June – 1 July 2020
ALL FEMALE BUILD – BRISBANE

The Eleanor Schonell Bridge, better known as the Green Bridge, is a 390-metre (1,280 ft)-long cable-stayed bridge which crosses the Brisbane River between Dutton Park and the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, connecting the UQ Lakes and Dutton Park Place busway stations. Its deck is 185 metres long, 20 metres wide and about 18 metres above the river’s surface. The bridge was opened on 17 December 2006, and is the first bridge in Australia exclusively designed for buses, cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge cost $55.5 million to construct.

Pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), or pumped hydroelectric energy storage (PHES), is a type of hydroelectric energy storage used by electric power systems for load balancing. The method stores energy in the form of gravitational potential energy of water, pumped from a lower elevation reservoir to a higher elevation. And we are going to build one.

The Barcelona Tower

The Constructionarium Australia pilot program was launched on 29 August 2016 and ran for five days at the USQ Springfield campus, with early-career engineers from BMD, Aurecon and TMR working together to construct a nine-metre tall replica of the Barcelona TV Tower.

The Story Bridge

The second challenge by Constructionarium Australia, the scaled-down replica of the Story Bridge was built by eighteen students and recent graduates under the guidance of several industry veterans.

All-Female Story Bridge

In June 2019, Constructionarium Australia, supported by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Major Contractors Association, BMD Constructions and Seymour Whyte, undertook an all-female build of Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge.
