Constructionarium Australia Alumni Event: Building the Digital Future Together in Brisbane

On Tuesday 18 November 2025, Constructionarium Australia welcomed past Queensland build participants to an inspiring evening of connection, conversation, and future-focused thinking at GHD Brisbane. The Alumni Event brought together graduates from past builds, industry leaders, and innovators to explore how technology is reshaping the construction and engineering landscape.

The evening kicked off with networking as alumni from across different builds The atmosphere was one of shared experience and curiosity, with conversations flowing about career journeys, emerging technologies, and how Constructionarium continues to shape the next generation of industry leaders. Guests were welcomed with an introduction from Keola, followed by a special video message from Nicky, setting the tone for a night centred on innovation, collaboration, and the evolving role of technology in infrastructure and construction.

The speaker sessions showcased diverse perspectives across digital engineering, data, analytics, and extended reality:

Hugh Hofmeister opened the speaker program with a compelling perspective on the Digital Future of Infrastructure. He emphasised the importance of embedding digital capability across all levels of the industry, drawing parallels with the way safety has become a shared responsibility. Hugh highlighted that digital transformation is not confined to technical specialists, but is a collective effort that relies on collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement in how infrastructure is planned, designed, and delivered.

Brendan Langfield followed with an insightful session focused on innovation, creativity, and the value of diversity in engineering and technology-driven environments. He explored how organisations can better connect strategic intent with on-the-ground delivery through the effective use of technology and analytics. Brendan encouraged attendees to approach complex challenges with curiosity and critical thinking, reinforcing the role of diverse perspectives in driving sustainable, human-centred solutions.

Karen Sanders concluded the speaker program by sharing her professional journey across engineering, construction, and emerging technologies. Drawing on her experience across major projects and extended reality (XR), Karen demonstrated how early adoption of 3D and visualisation tools can enhance learning, improve constructability, and strengthen collaboration between design and delivery teams. She underscored the importance of ongoing innovation and professional development, encouraging attendees to view their careers as evolving pathways shaped by continuous learning and industry engagement.

The evening concluded with a dynamic panel Q&A that invited the audience into the conversation. Topics included:

• The value of diverse perspectives in project teams

• The role of young professionals in shaping the future of construction

• Asking different questions to challenge traditional thinking

• Managing change in a rapidly evolving digital engineering environment

The discussion reinforced a shared message: the future of the industry will be built by those willing to collaborate, innovate, and embrace new ways of thinking.

From meaningful connections to thought-provoking insights, the Brisbane Alumni Event celebrated the strength of the Constructionarium community and its commitment to building a better, more digital future for the industry. The strong turnout and enthusiastic engagement reflected a collective passion for innovation, leadership, and lifelong learning.

We look forward to continuing these conversations at future alumni events and builds, and to seeing how our community continues to shape the infrastructure and construction industry of tomorrow.
